Domestic Short Hair / Mixed (short coat) : : Male : : Adult : : Medium
When Cosmo was rescued a little over a year ago, he was the tiniest baby of the 5 kittens in his litter and the hardest to catch. His rescuers were panicking after all his siblings and his mom had been rescued but Cosmo continued to stay out of reach. A trap was set up next to a carrier with his mom inside and he finally went in the trap out of desperation to be close to her. He was safe and became friendly quickly in a foster home until he was large enough to be adopted. He got a home right away and we thought that he was set for life but things don't always turn out like we hope they will - at least not necessarily on the first try. After a year in his home, Cosmo's mom has "suddenly become allergic to him and has to return him" so he is coming back to Adopt A Stray tomorrow. We are being told that he is still friendly & very social. He is currently living at the Aventura Petsmart Adoption Center. Be sure to come by and visit him and help us to reassure him that everything is going to be ok. We will post an update soon about how he is handling this change in his life.
Cosmo Update: Cosmo joined us after his return and was very reserved. It took a few weeks for him to come around, but once he did, he was back to being a jovial, playful boy! Then we received an application for him! Everyone was so happy, thinking this is what he deserves! But alas, he was returned once again after only a day because "he wasn't a lap cat and all he wanted to do was run and play." Cosmo is now back in the cat room at the Aventura Petsmart where he can be seen running and playing with the other cats everyday. We know there is a special forever home out there for him....2016 is going to bring permanent happiness to this very special boy.
It is estimated that only 2% of the US population are really allergic to cats. Many people give up their pets only to find out that their symptoms don't get any better and that it wasn't their cat or dog that they were allergic to in the first place. Many people have allergies but don't necessarily know what they are to. Unfortunately, the majority of people self-diagnose - many times incorrectly. If you have had a pet for over a year and suddenly have allergy symptoms, it is very possible you are allergic to something else in the environment that is seasonal like pollen, mold from outside that is always worse during rainy seasons, certain kinds of plants blooming, etc. IF it turns out that you really are allergic to your cat or dog, there are many, many things you can do to control the symptoms. If you love your pets and if you want to keep them, it is rarely necessary to give them up. There is a lot of good information on the internet, including on the Adopt A Stray website about things you can do - without too much effort on your part - to be able to enjoy living with your pets.
