Tortoiseshell / Tabby / Mixed (short coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Medium
This gorgeous green-eyed girl is Miracle and it is a true miracle that she is still alive and looking for a loving home. Miracle could be the poster-cat for all cats that are "dumped" "abandoned" or "discarded" by the people that they trust most in the world. It is obvious that she had a family at one time - probably not that long ago. She is loving and wants to be trusting but it will take a little time before she will know beyond any doubt that she is safe and protected. When Miracle was rescued she had just been hit by a car or truck. Her tail was mutilated and we can only imagine the terrible pain she had to be in. She had to have emergency surgery to remove her tail and her body has healed beautifully but her spirit and her confidence are still bruised. She is safe indoors now but every time a garbage truck goes by she panics a little. That will take a little longer to get over than surgery, stitches and an incision healing. Miracle is incredibly loving. She wants love and wants to give love. She purrs & cuddles & longs to be part of a loving family. What could be more fulfilling than giving her the home and the love she needs and knowing you helped her get her confidence back. The vet that did Miracle's surgery believes she is only a year to a year and a half as of May 2015. UPDATE (as of 9/1/15): Well, for the last couple of months, Miracle has done her part to try to help us help her find a family to love. Her foster mom has put her in a cage at the Aventura PetSmart Adoption Center every Saturday & Sunday and she has been more cooperative than we could have ever hoped for. She hasn't hidden in the litter box or under her bed or crawled under the rug. For the first couple of months, Miracle purred and stretched and talked to people. She rolled and rubbed against the sides of the cage for attention and played with people through the bars of the cage. And while most people are friendly and appreciative of her efforts, there are unfortunately always people that don't understand how difficult it is for a cat to be on display for strangers to gawk at. Some people put their faces right up to the cages, poke their fingers through the bars, strum their hands roughly across the bars and make all kinds of loud ridiculous noises at the cats like they are meowing, hissing, purring, gurgling, barking - not at all the sounds that a cat expects to hear out of a person. And amazingly, when that upsets a cat, some people do it even more to see how much of a reaction they can get. And some kids simply screech at them and shake the cages until, after realizing their parents aren't going to do a thing to stop them, an Adopt A Stray volunteer has to try to quickly and "sweetly" stop the little terrorizers without offending anyone before the cats are completely traumatized. There is sometimes a short time on Saturday nights after our volunteers leave and before PetSmart closes. All the cats have fresh food & water, their litter boxes are scooped and the cages are safely locked for the night. Most of the cats are just relaxing in their hammocks by then and getting a little attention from last minute shoppers but it is usually pretty quiet. Well, one Saturday night the middle of August, managers tell us the store was unusually busy with lots of people hanging around the cat cages and we aren't sure exactly what took place but it was too much for Miracle. On Sunday morning she was very upset and let us know she had had enough of being at PetSmart in a cage and whatever happened that Saturday night has still had her frightened each time she has gone back. This past Saturday (8/30) we had to accept that taking her to a noisy public place is not the way to get Miracle adopted. One of our volunteers (that Miracle doesn't know) took her home for a little while (to a place that Miracle has never been) to see how she would react and to take some new pictures of her. From the instant we took her out of the cage and put her into a carrier, she felt safe and calmed right down. At the volunteer's home, she came right out of the carrier and wandered around - checking everything out. She behaved perfectly for pictures - accepting being handled and gently restrained by someone she didn't know. We don't know if Miracle has ever been around dogs and right now she isn't with other cats. What we do know is that she LOVES people and would be perfectly happy to be the only love of your life. She is happy when she feels safe and plays like a kitten. She especially loves toys with catnip! She is young and healthy and could be a wonderful, affectionate companion for many years to come. We can easily make arrangements for you to meet Miracle if you are interested in making her part of your family. We will be introducing her to a few other cats over the next couple of weeks and will update this when we know how she accepts other cats. Right now we would have to say that we believe her preference would be to be the only kitty in the family.
