When we got the call about Sunkist and her brother, Cosa, we were told that there had been 4 small kittens but that 2 had disappeared. When we got to the location, we found these 2 gorgeous kittens playing in a lush planter  -  confident that, though we could see them clearly & watch their wrestling, the growth was so thick that we couldn't touch them. The planter island that this little family called home was surrounded by the busy parking lots of a gas station, a Taco Bell and a popular strip joint. It wasn't hard to imagine what had happened to the other 2 kittens. That had to be the only time ever that you would find 3 AAS volunteers together without a carrier, a trap or a single can of cat food. So, we called for reinforcements but before she arrived with the necessary supplies, the young male manager from the gas station firmly informed us that "the cats were just fine there" that they "take care of them." When we argued that they were going to get run over, he  bragged that there were 7 generations of cats living there. Well, we'd already been told by one of the employees that there were exactly 4 adults and the kittens there but there was no point in trying to have a battle of wits with an unarmed man. As he walked off, he stopped to yell back at us - And we don't want their balls cut off. Wow!

So, soon after, like thieves in the night, we rescued;Sunkist and Cosa from their likely death-trap and got their feral mom spayed. The biggest surprise was Nola, their spunky, beautiful sister; who showed up the day after Sunkist & Cosa were picked up. Needless to say, Nola did not get left behind.

Sunkist seemed less afraid the first couple of days because she never hissed but it turned out that she is just a tad calmer than Cosa. It took a few days longer for her to get brave enough to approach their foster mom but she has adjusted beautifully. She loves her brother, Cosa, but gets along great with the other foster kittens she is with and would love to have another kitty to play with in her new home! Maybe Cosa or her sister, Nola, that is in a different foster home.

Sunkist is playful and FUN and affectionate. She will likely need a couple of days with her new family to feel safe and at home. You can meet Sunkist and Cosa on Saturdays and Sundays at the Aventura PetSmart or during the week with an approved application.
