Update: As of June 5, 2013, Mango is back with Adopt A Stray. He was adopted 2 1/2 months ago but due to a change in his previous owner's finances, Mango has been returned. Mango is now 6 months old and he is an amazing lovable little man who is absolutely gorgeous, affectionate, playful and very intelligent. He has a calm, confident and relaxed personality and adores attention from people and other cats. Mango is beginning a new journey to find a home that will give him the love and life he craves and deserves. This amazing boy will be your devoted companion and thank you everyday for giving him a second chance. __________________________________________________
What would you do if you knew there was a sweet and friendly 8 week old homeless kitten living in your neighborhood with a severely infected eye? Would you try to help the kitten or simply ignore him and leave him to suffer with the possibility of him going blind? This was Mango’s story and no one helped him because no one wanted to take responsibility for him. By the time Adopt A Stray was made aware of this situation, Mango’s left eye was in extremely bad shape. In fact, I could not even see his eye behind all the inflammation and swelling. I had two veterinarians examine him and they both didn’t have much hope in being able to save his eye. The next logical step was to take Mango to an ophthalmologist for another opinion. She explained to me that as bad as the infection was, kittens have a tendency to “bounce back” with an aggressive treatment plan. So knowing that there was a chance I could help save Mango’s eye the plan was put into action. It was a lengthy treatment which consisted of several medications being administered round the clock and numerous visits to the ophthalmologist. Due to a wonderful eye specialist, the correct medication and Mango’s strength and flawless spirit he made remarkable progress and sailed through his recovery and the treatment was a success. Mango’s left eye is still a little cloudy but with time the scar will heal and the cloudiness should fade away. The cloudiness does not affect his sight and Mango does have full vision in his eye. Like many orange boys he is incredibly sweet and affectionate - once he gets to know you. Initially, Mango will be cautious with unfamiliar people and new environments (I guess life on the streets can do that to you) but once he feels comfortable and safe he will form a bond with you that will be there forever. Mango is a fun kitty and loves to play with all types of toys especially the laser light pointer which he is totally entranced with – although the mysterious cardboard box is also very intriguing to him. Although he’s still a kitten, he is large for his age (3 ½ months as of 3/19/2013) and will most likely be a “monster size dude” when he grows up. Mango is a little trooper and he has had some hard times in his young life, but he’s on a good path now and deserves to be part of a loving family.
