Mercury was brought into an emergency animal hospital by a Good Samaritian trying to help a cat that was limping within a group of cats.  Mercury was a little different than the rest of the cats in the group because he was very friendly.

Mercury was in a lot of pain and not putting any pressure on his paw.  As it turned out, he had a very bad infection in his front right toe, so bad that the infection had gone into the bone.

The best course of action was to amputate the toe.  The estimate that was given was far beyond the means these people could afford and they decided that euthanasia was the best option.

The vet tech, not involved in his initial consultation was told to prepare him for euthanasia and to get a weight and remove his collar.  When she removed his collar and picked him up to weigh him, he rolled over in her arms and kissed her.

She adamantly said this cat cannot be euthanized and with her own funds and help from the clinic doctors, Mercury's toe was amputated, he was neutered and completely vetted.

The vet tech had been a long time volunteer of Adopt A Stray and asked for help in finding him a home.

UPDATE - AUGUST 30, 2021

Mercury has completely recovered and now calls the Cat Room at the Aventura Petsmart his temporary "Casa".

We are learning more about Mercury every day - but we do know that if you're looking for a companion to fill your life with fun, then Mercury just might be the one!

He's an adventurer with an enormous personality and knows how to play his way into your heart.  When it comes to toys, he's live entertainment at its finest with his feline ninja skills.

Another great thing about Mercury is that as playful and active as he is, he throws the same amount of energy into loving his people.  He's a generous boy when it comes to kitty kisses and lounging in your lap.

Mercury can peacefully co-exist with other cats but he really has no interest in having a relationship with other felines - he prefers to be the "King Cat" of his home.

Mercury has an abundance of gratitude to share with his next hero - a family of his own.
