Peace Talks

Unfortunately for Peace, her street mom had Feline Aids (FIV) and Peace was born with it.  But fortunately for Peace, we know that FIV is not a death sentence.  FIV cats live long and healthy lives when they have a loving home and do not have to suffer the hardships of street life.  We also know that FIV is not contagious to humans and only transferred to other cats through sexual activity or aggressive territorial fighting (blood transfer). Therefore, FIV positive cats can easily live in a loving home with other cats.  (click here for more information about FIV)

For the first few months of Peace's life she lived in the bedroom of an Adopt A Stray volunteer.  This volunteer realized how truly special this cat was and how wonderful it would be for Peace to have the run of a whole house....and run she did.  Her energy is truly infectious.

November 2008- May 2009:  Peace moved into my front bedroom (we always recommend that new cats be kept in a separate room and are allowed to join the household at their own pace)  Naturally curious, she came out of her carrier with her tail high anxious to explore the room.  She did so non-stop for the next couple hours and then settled in for a little kitten lovin'.   A few days later  Peace and the four cats with whom Peace would be living showed signs they were ready to meet, I propped the door open .... she hissed at each one once and then when approached again, she sniffed and made friends.  Peace adapted very quickly, it generally takes much longer to introduce cats.

Peace is a very active kitty, she loves to run and play with the other cats and then curl up next to a human when she needs a little time out.  She purrs so loud it almost drowns out the TV.   She quickly learned the idiocycrasies of the other cats in the house.  For example, my orange tabby doesn't like to be chased and he would hiss at her to let her know.....but soon he would just stop running and she'd fly by him - sometimes she even patted his butt as she went by.  How cute is that?

One of Peace's favorite activities is spending time out on the screened in porch, watching the birds and the squirrels and playing "hunter".  Learning to use the cat door so she can go out on the porch anytime she wants thrilled her and she practiced it over and over the first day - like she couldn't believe it was true and had keep convincing herself it was possible.

Peace is a "flopper".  Every so often she stops playing long enough to come up next to me put her head down and just let the rest of her little body "flop" down on me or next to me.  She not only does this to me, but occasionally walks up to one of my other cats and "flops" on top of them.   She always wants to sleep with you and can become your "feline alarm clock" .  Once she gets use to what time you get up she likes to walk on you and purr loudly at that time each morning.    What a great way to wake up!

May 2009-December 2009:  Peace was adopted in May and we were thrilled she was going to her forever home, however, it did not work out and Peace was returned this December.

December 2009-present: Peace moved back in with me and readjusted to her new and "former" home very quickly.  The first  morning she seemed a little subdued, but by that afternoon she seemed fine.  She was ready to join the other cats the following day and I don't know if cats just have great memories or what, but it's like she never left!  She ran right through the cat door onto the porch, jumped on the bed to play with a feather toy and actually seemed "happy".   This little girl has an amazing ability to adaptShe is as cute and sweet as ever!

I had forgotten how fearless Peace is, she doesn't shy away from loud noises or even the vacuum cleaner, following me around and playing with the cord.  She has wrecked a little havoc with my normally docile cat household, but her energy is catching on and they are all wanting to both play and cuddle more than usual.

As much as Peace loves her foster home, she would love to have a special someone to love her and play with her every day.   There's no doubt she will steal your heart in short order.
