The Banco Popular employees recently held a luncheon and sold delicious "cat" cupcakes to raise $400 for Adopt A Stray. (see pictures below)
Adopt A Stray has rescued and found homes for many stray cats/kittens, the luncheon helps defray the cost of food, medical care and sterilization for the animals. Adoption fees do not cover those costs.
Adopt A Stray is an all volunteer organization and relies exclusively on private donations. 100% of all donations go directly to the care of our animals.

Adopt A Stray Volunteers Run
The volunteers of Adopt a Stray are up for the challenge. What challenge??? Several of us have decided to run/walk in the Disney ½ (13.1 miles) and/or full marathon (26.2 miles) to help raise money for Adopt a Stray. For most of us, this will be our first time participating in a half or full marathon. It’s exciting and scary all at the same time.
Yvette, one of our volunteers, ran her first marathon last year at Disney and has been motivating all of us to keep training. Even if we are not training together it’s exciting to hear about each other’s progress, and it keeps us striving to go further and faster. Training in Florida is hot no matter what time we get out there, hopefully it will cool down so we don’t pass out J. A few of the volunteers are actually running both the half (Saturday) and the full marathon (Sunday), this is called a “Goofy”, and you really have to be goofy to consider doing this.
The half marathon is on January 9, 2010 and the full marathon is on January 10, 2010 at Disney World located in Orlando Florida.
Please help us raise money for Adopt a Stray by sponsoring us. 100% of all monies donated goes directly to help the animals.

They did it!!! Through sleet, snow and rain. Day 1 the walkers/runners got up at 3:00 AM, the temperature was 25 degrees Fahrenheit. They are all FLORIDEANS!!! They waited before the race began covered in blankets, in the freezing rain for the 1/2 Marathon to begin. Through these freezing cold conditions, they froze, sweated and froze again, temperatures kept getting lower, the sun never came out, but that did not stop them. Why do they call it "Goofy"? Well after running 13.1 miles Yvette and Sherill ran the full 26.2 miles on Sunday. Running 39 miles in less than 24 hours, yeah its goofy. Congrads to Yvette for her fast run and to Sherill for doing her first Marathon ever and making it a Goofy. Thank you to the volunteers below who have spent months training for runs and especially to all you sponsors who allow Adopt A Stray to continue helping the strays we love. Joey and the Bean"cats" |
||
| 3000 people lost their homes when they were evicted from their trailer park. They had no place to go and neither did their pets. Adopt A Stray stepped up to the plate and offered to take in as many cats as we could. The first kitty we named Joey, but as they came into our care one by one, the remainder were given "bean" names. Below are the lucky "bean" kitties that have been rescued and are looking forward to their new homes. |

| Adopted | Adopted | To describe this young cat is tricky. He is incredibly sweet and calm. He desperately wants to trust you and be with you. Azuki would be so happy just to crawl into bed or on your lap and feel the comfort of true security. He sometimes is unsure of himself and with a touch he feels love and starts his kneading. This kitty is so sweet and loving, he just needs his FOREVER home. His foster mom thinks he is the cats meow. |
| Fava "bean" | Lentil "bean" | Navy "bean" |

Fava is a very large male kitty with a big boy head. He has remarkable markings (classic tabby and white, in swirls). He may look a little rough and tough, but has a very sweet demeanor. His meow sounds like it belongs to a little feminine kitty. Fava is affectionate and sweet, not sure how he would do around cats that are timid. Fava is just learning what toys are, but he learned about food right away. He has decided that food is something he likes to get everyday. |

When Navy was picked up he was under 3 pounds, lifeless and covered with mange. He did not move, eat or respond. His hip bones pertruded and were sharp. The kitten got his first treatment for mange and was taken to the vet who said he was also extremely anemic, emaciated and probably never had a real meal. She also said he was not a kitten. He had ALL his adult teeth and had to be at least 7 months old. It was the saddest news...to find out this cat was in such bad shape. Navy is now affectionate, demanding and has learned what toys are. He is fine in new situations and can be seen by appointment. Navy has gained some weight, yes some weight... Let us know if you want to meet him. He is adorable. |

Butter was lucky, a little battered, but he was rescued. You can see it in his eyes, he is a very soulful cat. It is as if Butter can feel deeply, he looks at you, really looks at you. Butter has had a hard beginning, he is a bit beat up, but healing nicely. He loves to be around people and deserves a home where he can feel safe and loved. This delicious Butter Bean will be making his debut soon. If you are interested in meeting him, he can be shown by appointment. Forgot to mention, when Butter is really happy he loves to hold your hand...softly...with his mouth. |
