"get lucky" - adopt a black cat

Because of superstition and prejudice, or even just because they blend into the shadows of their cages, black cats and kittens are sadly more likely to be passed over for adoption.  However, research indicates that cats with black fur have a gene that helps prevent a number of illnesses and other research indicates that black cats are more likely to be laid back and friendly than cats of other colors

Gene studies conducted at the U.S. National Cancer Institute have linked black fur with a gene family involved in preventing a number of illnesses. This theory is supported by the fact that black and black-and-white cats are more abundant than those of other fur colours in feral colonies where virus resistance would be particularly beneficial, as close proximity with other animals can easily spread disease.  In Animals Make Us Human, author Temple Grandin found studies that show black cats are more likely to be laid back and friendly than those of other coat colours. Other studies and anecdotal evidence attribute characteristics such as loyalty, stubbornness, and a generally good-natured personality to black cats.

Velvet

Velvet and her 3 babies were abandoned when her babies were just a few days old.  Velvet was a first time (& very young) mom.  She was nothing short of amazing; trusting complete strangers to handle not only her, but also her babies. Her mothering skills were also great, taking such care with feedings & hanging out with her kids, that they didn't venture out of their crate till about 4 weeks of age.

Velvet is a beauty, with shiny black fur & big golden eyes that look up with trust & affection.  Since she is still quite young herself, she is quite playful as well as sweet. Her mothering responsibilities are finally done, and now Velvet is longing for someone to shower her with the affection she deserves in her forever home and allow her to finally enjoy being a young & wonderful kitty.

You may meet Velvet at the Pembroke Pines Petsmart, where she is residing until she steals someone's heart.  Velvet has her own webpage, click on the following link to learn more about this amazing girl.

Rida

A German Shepherd found Rida and carried her home in his mouth when she was just a few weeks old.  His owners contacted Adopt A Stray and now she is a wonderful teenage cat looking for a home.  She is gorgeous with piercing gold eyes and has a sweet loving personality to match. Rida was bottle raised and loves people.

Rida is currently living at the Pembroke Pines Petsmart.  Come meet her when you get a chance.

Panther

Here is your chance to own your own Florida black panther.  This boy was one of 5 black kittens born to a feral mom.  All his siblings have been found homes except panther. He has the most intense look with those golden yellow eyes.  You have to meet him in person to appreciate this, his pictures do not do him justice. He is in a foster home right now and can been seen by appointment.  He is a great kitty and all he wants is a bed or lap to sleep in. Panther is great with other cats and dogs too. He is even good with kids - preferably older children.   You can meet this wonderful kitty at the Pembroke Pines Petsmart on Saturdays between 12pm - 6pm. For more information you can e-mail the foster mom Yvette at yveliz@comcast.net.

Memphis

Memphis was rescued from a development that has several stray cats - his mom is feral (wild)  and has been spayed and is being cared for. Memphis is a sweet special soul, he was an out going kitten, but with time he has become a bit depressed. He has a difficult time on Saturdays when he is being shown at Petsmart. All he wants is to have his own family that will be patient with him, because when he bonds with his family they will feel all the love he has inside.

If you like to snuggle up next to a wonderful kitty or if you would like to be lulled to sleep with a loud soothing purr, Memphis is your boy.  When Memphis is all curled sleeping you might think that this is an all black cat, but the minute he sits up you can see an adorable white belly and a couple other white patches.    You can meet Memphis most Saturdays at the Pembroke Pines Petsmart from 12-6pm.

Moonpie

Moonpie came from a feral colony, her and her sister Sahara. Both were untouchable and were to be returned to the colony. Both kitty's were worked with and are doing great. They have their own language of communication, you can hear Moon Pie churping and Sahara comes running or churps back to her.

Moonpie loves to play and loves to be petted sweetly.  She needs a home who knows cats and can appreciate her beauty inside and out.   You can meet Moonpie by appointment.

Cleopatra

Cleopatra was rescued with her two gorgeous black kittens who have found their forever home. She  is an extremely affectionate kitty. She would rather be loved and coddled than anything else in the world. You better not be a light sleeper because her purr is so loud, you would have to wake up to love her. She is a true lover girl.

Cleo currently lives with her foster mom and can be seen by appointment only. Once this kitty gets to know you, she would spend the rest of her time trying to make you happy.  She has the typical good natured characteristic of a black cat.   You can meet Cleo by appointment.

Butter (bean)

Butter was rescued from a trailer park, he was battered, his fur was a mess...but he was rescued.
You can see it in his eyes, he is a very soulful cat. It is as Butter can feel deeply, he looks at you, really looks at you

Butter has been in a foster home and lives with three other cats. Butter has changed since his rescue. He loves to be around people and is very loving and vocal too. He has learned how to play and LOVES his toys, in fact, he has a basket full of them and goes through them daily to see which ones he wants to play with. Butter constantly chirps having long conversations with anyone who will participate. He is sweet, yummy and delicious. One more thing, he has a little fettish...Butter loves toes. LOVES them. He loves to kiss them and kiss them. Do you have a foot fettish?  You can meet Butter Bean by appointment.
